In today’s world, learning doesn’t stop when formal schooling ends. But those with developmental disabilities face the challenge of how to get additional help when they age out of school. Durand’s Day Program offers a way for them to continue honing skills.
Operating weekdays, year-round, the program stresses pre-vocational training as well as independent living skills. Participants also strengthen communication and social skills so that they can live more independently. The program integrates individuals in community-based volunteer activities on a regular basis.
While learning takes place in group activities, the program is highly individualized. Participants are annually assessed to determine ability and to set goals. Adult Training Services also runs a small business that provides real employment. It produces Scentsations, a line of body and bath products.
Adult Training Services is licensed by New Jersey’s Division of Developmental Disabilities which pays all costs including transportation.
